Feature Friday: Meet Member Chrissy Selby

1. Where are you originally from?

Indianapolis, Indiana.

2. When did you move to Myrtle Beach?

I was living in Chicago and moved down here to start a new job in 2010. I was really excited to get away from the brutal winters and angry drivers. Sometimes I miss the big city and my friends up north, but I must say that life is good down here.

3. How long have you been a member of Finish Strong?

I joined FS in January of 2016, so it has been almost two years.

4. What made you decide to join FS?

Christina Taylor. I used to jog through the neighborhood, and Christina would stop me and attempt to convince me to try bootcamp instead of running (which she did for probably a good year or two). Every time she asked, I had an excuse for why I didn't want to join her for a 5:15 a.m. class. Busy. Tired. Sick. Can’t get up that early. You name it. After finding myself in a tough personal spot a couple years back, she convinced me that it was a good idea to get out and try something new. We did bootcamp together for about a week at 5:15 a.m., and then I was hooked :)

5. Where did you go on vacation this summer?

Gosh, I wish I could say I went on vacation this summer. Instead, this summer I moved to Conway. Yes, Conway (and I love it). I also taught 4 classes and got married in August. Needless to say life was busy, and there was no time for a vacation. Does visiting my new niece in Indianapolis count? Probably not. Well, maybe next summer I will go on vacation.

6. Do you have any pets?

For the first time in a long time I actually do not have any pets, and I'm actually okay with that. My son Wyatt wants a puppy. We'll see.

7. What is your favorite quote?

“Wherever you go, go with all your heart.” - Confucius

8. What's your idea of a fun night out?

I love being in a new place (like a new city), getting dressed up, and going out to dinner. There is something exciting about exploring new places.

9. What's a favorite workout/challenge/event that you've done at FS?

I loved the group challenge I did with in the spring with Laura Davis, Adrienne Dodge, and Chrissy Smith. We didn't win, but we had a ton of fun working out together and just getting closer with each other. It’s hard to say that I have one favorite workout - overall. I enjoy the variety that comes with doing different workouts with different trainers – both inside and outside.

10. What's your favorite song to workout to?

I typically put on Pandora on the today’s hits or today’s country station – depending on my mood.

11. Where's your favorite restaurant in Myrtle Beach?

Croissants is great for lunch with the family or dinner with my husband. Brother Shuckers in Carolina Forest is really good, too. I also like Sun City Café for a girls’ night out. The margaritas and homemade salsa are worth the trip.

12. What do you like most about Finish Strong?

Dedicated, creative, passionate trainers create workouts with just the right amount of rigor and intensity. This combined with so many different workout options makes it unlike any other workout place. I have friends there, and I like that. Ultimately what I like most is the people. I used to be able to go to a gym by myself and get on a cardio machine for an hour, but now the mere thought of something like that is just plain boring and I just can’t anymore.

13. If you had to which would you choose: 50 burpees or 100 warrior sit ups?

I would rather do burpees but to get through 50 I might need a break or two.

14. How do you relax after a long day?

After a long day at work, I am usually at home preparing for the next day. When I have time, I sit on the couch and watch TV. Very original. I am looking forward to finding more time to relax because life just seems so busy.

15. Do you have any hobbies?

Hmmm…My new husband is a photographer, and I am enjoying learning about that from him.
